South Carolina faces unique challenges. People are out of work. Families are
over-taxed. Businesses are over-regulated. And government is broken. Conservative
Republican Ken Ard recognizes these challenges. But Ken knows that nothing is wrong
with South Carolina that more jobs can’t fix. That’s why Ken is running for lieutenant
governor. He is ready to lead South Carolina’s economic turnaround and put people
back to work.
Born and raised in Pamplico, Ken Ard is a caring father, successful businessman and
devoted public servant. Ken served as president of Pamplico truck-body manufacturer
Double A Body Builder where he learned first-hand what it takes for business to
flourish and for our economy to grow: hard work, common sense, fiscal discipline and
freedom from government interference.
These conservative values were instilled in Ken by his parents. And Ken put them to
work for Florence County when he was elected to county council in 2004. As a county
councilman, Ken’s passion is improving the quality of life for everyone in Florence
County. Ken’s philosophy is simple: individual liberty expands, and economic opportunity
flourishes, when government is accountable, lean and efficient.
Ken fights tirelessly to protect taxpayers. He proudly signed Americans for Tax Reform’s
pledge never to raise taxes as lieutenant governor. And he consistently votes to reduce
the size and scope of government. Ken has been called one of the Republican Party’s “bright,
rising stars.” His steadfast conservative leadership was heralded by Florence County’s
conservative activists when they elected Ken chairman of the Florence County Republican
Party in 2009. And when Ken announced his candidacy for lieutenant governor, his hometown
newspaper recognized “[Ken Ard’s] ability to build consensus, look at big-picture issues and
encourage business development.” Ken is unapologetically pro-life. He believes life begins
at conception. And he will always fight to protect innocent human life. Ken supported the
2006 amendment to South Carolina’s constitution that defined marriage as a union between one
man and one woman.
Ken Ard has been married for more than 20 years to his wife Tammy. They have three children:
Jesse, Mason and Libby. Ken is a proud outdoorsman and gun owner. The Ard family attends
Southside Baptist Church in Florence.
